Statement-Making Guest Bathroom Remodel
From Builder-Grade Basics to Bold, Design-Forward & Unforgettable
This guest bathroom remodel was all about making a statement — transforming a dated, builder-grade space into a bold, design-forward bathroom that leaves an impression on every guest who walks in.
The Before
The original bathroom was the definition of builder-grade — beige walls, basic tile flooring, a dark-stained vanity with a laminate countertop, and a standard tub/shower combo hidden behind a shower curtain. The finishes were dated, the space felt closed off, and there was zero personality. It was functional, but it wasn't doing this home any favors.
The Vision
We wanted this guest bath to be anything but forgettable. The goal was to create a space that felt intentional and elevated — a room where the tile made a statement, the fixtures told a story, and every detail felt curated. We envisioned a moody, sophisticated palette anchored by bold vertical tile in the shower, warm gold hardware throughout, and a vanity area that balanced richness with refinement.
The Transformation
Floor-to-Ceiling Statement Tile Shower
The showstopper of this remodel is the walk-in shower. We removed the old tub/shower combo and replaced it with a custom glass-enclosed shower featuring deep blue vertical tile running floor to ceiling on all three walls. The stacked vertical layout adds height and drama, while the glossy finish catches light beautifully. A hexagonal mosaic tile on the shower floor introduces subtle pattern without competing with the walls. Frameless glass with brushed gold hardware and a coordinating handle keeps the look clean and lets the tile take center stage. Inside the shower, the Kohler Occasion Single-Function Showerhead in Vibrant French Gold delivers a full-coverage drenching spray thanks to Katalyst air-induction technology — equal parts luxurious and functional. It's paired with the Kohler Occasion Wall Mounted Shower Arm and Flange, and the Kohler Occasion Pressure Balanced Valve Trim with its distinctive pentagonal faceplate — all in the same Vibrant French Gold finish for a cohesive, polished look backed by the Kohler Rite-Temp Pressure Balanced Valve Body for reliable temperature control.
Curated Vanity Area
The vanity zone received an equally intentional upgrade. A warm wood-toned vanity with a quartz countertop replaces the original dark-stained cabinet, adding richness without heaviness. The Kohler Occasion Widespread Bathroom Faucet in Vibrant French Gold — with its sculptural Cane spout design — is paired with Kohler Occasion Lever Handles for a look inspired by 1960s Hollywood glamour. Above, an arched wood-framed mirror softens the lines of the space and adds warmth. A three-light vanity fixture in a coordinating gold finish ties the hardware together and provides balanced, flattering light. A gold towel ring and a floral patterned hand towel bring in a curated, layered feel.
Thoughtful Details
Even the elements guests might not notice at first were carefully selected. The Kohler Irvine Two-Piece Elongated Toilet with its sleek skirted trapway design offers a clean, modern silhouette that complements the bathroom's design-forward aesthetic. The Kohler Irvine Left-Hand Trip Lever in Vibrant French Gold and the Kohler Impro Elongated Toilet Seat with ReadyLatch Quiet-Close technology ensure the details match the overall vision. A Panasonic WhisperValue DC Exhaust Fan operates whisper-quiet at less than one sone — keeping the space comfortable and well-ventilated without disrupting the ambiance.
The Result
What was once an overlooked, forgettable guest bathroom is now one of the most talked-about rooms in the house. The bold blue tile paired with warm Vibrant French Gold fixtures from Kohler's Occasion collection creates a look that's simultaneously dramatic and sophisticated. Every element — from the sculptural faucet to the frameless glass shower enclosure to the coordinating vanity lighting — was selected with intention.
This remodel is proof that a guest bathroom doesn't have to play it safe. With the right tile, the right fixtures, and a clear design vision, even the smallest room in the house can make the biggest statement.
